About Fireboy and Watergirl: Forest Temple

Fireboy and Watergirl: Forest Temple is the game that defined two-player co-op in the browser. Two elemental heroes, one haunted temple, and a rule that never bends: fire and water do not mix. Fireboy sprints through lava lakes that would vaporize Watergirl, Watergirl dives through pools that would snuff Fireboy, and both of them die instantly in the green goo neither can touch.

Every level is a two-person puzzle. Levers move platforms that only matter to the other player, diamonds come in fire-safe and water-safe flavors, and the exit doors — fire-shaped and water-shaped — only open when both heroes stand at their own door. Playing solo means switching characters and controlling both, which works; playing with a friend means shouting, blaming and the specific joy of a perfectly timed lever assist.

Runs free in the browser, no download. Two players on one keyboard on desktop, touch controls on mobile. Gather all the diamonds, reach both doors, and try not to walk your sister into the lava. Again.

How to play

Desktop Fireboy: arrow keys to move and climb. Watergirl: A, W and D to move and climb. R restarts the level.
Mobile Each character gets an on-screen d-pad; both are active at once so two players can share one device.

Tips & tricks

  1. Diamonds first, doors second — but call it out. The classic co-op failure is one player waiting at the door while the other hunts the last gem.
  2. Green liquid kills both characters instantly. Neither hero touches it, ever, so plan routes around the goo before someone learns the hard way.
  3. Levers stay held by whoever stands on them. Some puzzles need a character parked on a lever while the other collects — agree on who waits.
  4. Fire slides and water slides only work for the matching element; the wrong hero on a slide dies at the bottom.
