About Hole.io
Hole.io answers the question nobody knew they had: what if you controlled the pothole? Steer a hungry void around a living city, swallow everything smaller than you — lampposts, cars, fences, eventually entire buildings — and grow with every meal. The satisfying loop of consume-and-expand made it the definitive recreational competitive game of the io genre.
Growth is a race. The map is full of other holes with the same appetite, and anything they eat is lost to you — swallowing a rival hole before it swallows you is legal, encouraged and extremely satisfying. Timed rounds keep sessions tight: two minutes to turn a manhole cover into a municipal crisis, then the biggest hole wins.
Free in the browser, no download, controlled entirely with the mouse — or one finger on mobile. It is the perfect low-commitment power trip: instant to learn, hard to put down, and weirdly relaxing to watch a city disappear piece by piece.
How to play
| Desktop | Move the mouse — the hole follows your cursor. That is the entire control scheme; the strategy is in the routing. |
|---|---|
| Mobile | Drag your finger across the screen to steer the hole, or use the on-screen joystick variant depending on your device. |
Tips & tricks
- Start with parks and benches — small objects are everywhere and uncontested, giving the fastest early growth.
- Circle the outskirts early. The map center is where every hole spawns, and a small hole in a crowd is a snack.
- You can eat anything smaller than your rim, including rival holes slightly below your size — check twice before fleeing.
- Buildings go down in bites. Park on a corner and let the hole chew through the base rather than circling the block.
