About Tanuki Sunset

Tanuki Sunset is a third-person longboard game starring a raccoon carving down a synthwave seaside highway. Procedurally generated downhill roads mean no two runs repeat: drift through narrow corners, thread between midnight traffic, and hop off ramps for airtime while the retro soundtrack does the heavy lifting for your vibe.

Scoring revolves around style. Drifting fills your combo, near-misses and flips multiply it, and Tanuki Bits collected along the road top up your score pool — get hit and you lose a chunk of what you are carrying, so greed and route choice are real decisions. The handling is drift-first: the board wants to slide, and learning to live inside the slide is the whole skill tree.

Runs in any modern browser with no download — WASD or arrow keys plus mouse or space to drift on desktop, touch controls on mobile. It is the rare high-score chaser that feels just as good in a three-minute break as it does in a three-hour session.

How to play

Desktop WASD or arrow keys to steer and carve, space or mouse buttons to drift, tab for pause and options.
Mobile Touch steering with an on-screen drift button; the run layout adapts to landscape screens.

Tips & tricks

  1. Drift before the corner, not during it. Initiating the slide early sets a wider, faster line through the apex.
  2. Near-misses with cars pay out big, but only bank combo points when the road ahead is clear — greed causes the losses.
  3. Ramps are score multipliers: a flip mid-air is worth more than the straight line you sacrificed to hit it.
  4. When your carried Tanuki Bits get large, play one conservative run to bank them; one crash can wipe a great run.

FAQ

What is the goal in Tanuki Sunset?
High score. Drifts, flips, near-misses and collected Tanuki Bits all feed one combo pool — survive the downhill run and cash in as much of it as you can.
Is Tanuki Sunset free?
Yes, it runs free in the browser with no download or account needed.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, with touch steering and drift controls, though the keyboard version on desktop gives the tightest cornering.
Is the track always the same?
No — the downhill road generates procedurally, so every run has a new sequence of corners, traffic and ramps.
